About Barnard College

Barnard was founded in 1889, and sits in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York with a student population of 2,500. Barnard College was the first women’s college in New York City. Barnard College is legally and financially independent from Columbia University, but students have the added benefit of sharing the vast resources of its neighbor.
